Creating and running an educational science website

A few years ago while working at NPL, a science lab on the outskirts of London, I had the idea of trying to enable the general public to be able to ask questions to real, professional scientists and get answers. Several years of building up a network of volunteer scientists and creating the website, Ask a Scientist is thriving – with over 95,000 visitors in 2014 alone.

In this short talk I discuss my motivations behind starting Ask a Scientist, a brief overview of the site and a look into potential future activity.

If you’ve ever wondered what Ask a Scientist is all about or even to just put a face to the name – then here is your chance to find out!
